Want Your Fresh Hair Color to Last 30% Longer? Do This
Five easy at-home tips from Lekkey Salon to make your fresh hair color last up to 30% longer, plus the insider products we use to keep it vibrant.
To keep your color looking flawless for as long as possible after you leave the salon, Khun Lek has a few easy at-home tips that can help lock it in and make it last up to 30% longer.
5 tips to lock in your color, at home
1. Wash less often in the first days after coloring — every other day, or once every 2–3 days, to reduce how much pigment gets washed out.
2. Use a sulfate-free shampoo — sulfates create lots of lather but strip color fast. Switch to a shampoo made specifically for color-treated hair, which is gentler.
3. Rinse with cool water only — warm water opens the cuticle and lets color escape, while cool water seals it, locks in the color, and adds shine.
4. Avoid high heat — from both blow dryers and flat irons. If you must use them, always spray a heat protectant first, and switch to a cool setting.
5. Pat your hair gently — don't scrub it hard with a towel. Wet hair has a fragile cuticle, and rough friction can strip color and cause frizz.
Insider products at the salon
If you'd rather not hunt around for the right products yourself, at Lekkey Salon Khun Lek has hand-picked the star items we use in-house and offers them for clients to take home.
• For muted or ash/gray tones: a toning shampoo that neutralizes yellow and orange, keeping your color cool and true rather than brassy.
• Intensive treatment: it seals the cuticle right after washing, leaving hair silky and fresh as if you'd just left the salon — our own formula, created by Khun Lek for clients with badly damaged hair. It contains keratin shine-coating and bond-building agents for deep nourishment, bringing dry, damaged hair back to a glossy, weighted finish with a lovely lingering fragrance.
• Hair oil: a heat protectant and shine booster — the very one Khun Lek reaches for on the job.
